Nadodigal -My Review(4/5)

Nadodigal is a realistic, fun filled film based on friendship and executed in an entertaining manner. It is something different from the usual narrative for it keeps the viewers rooted to their seats with the same zeal for the entire 2 hours and 45 minutes

There are three close friends living in Rajapalayam, who virtually even eat from the same plate- Karunakaran (Sasikumar), a B.A gold medalist looking desperately for a goverment job which is considered prestigious by his uncle, whose daughter Nallamma ( Ananya) is madly in love with him.

Pandi (Bharani) is a funny guy who dreams of flying abroad and is waiting for his passport. Chandran (Vijay), the son of an ex-serviceman, is planning to set up a computer center with a Bank loan and is in love with Pavithra (Abhinaya), Karuna’s sister.

At a stage, Saravanan, the only son of an ex-MP Sangvi, enters their lives. He is in love with his mother's enemy Palanivel Raman's (Jaiprakash) only daughter Parabha. Palanivel Raman is a don cum industrialist in Namakkal area. But both Sangvi and Palanivel Raman strongly oppose the love relation. After Saravanan tries to commit suicide, the three friends come to his rescue.

All the three friends go to Namakkal and start a risky operation. Finally they bring together the love birds with help of their local friend Kanja Karuppu. But in that operation, Karuna, almost loses his eye, his grandmother gets killed, and the girl he loves is emotionally blackmailed and forced to marry some other govt employee.

His another friend Chandran loses his leg and Pandi loses his hearing sills, but still they are happy and strongly support Karuna.

Later they come to know that they were cheated by the lovers. Saravanan and Prabha got married just for their sexual needs and once they get bored with the relationship they simply want to separate. This irks the true friends and they decide to give it back in a shocking style. The remaining part is a different but unforgettable lesson for those who use good friendship for their convenience.

The pre-interval period of the film is quite enjoyable and it is just like a roller coaster ride. But the post-interval session needs perfection and trimming in many serial like scenes.

The real winner of the film is undoubtedly Sasikumar, the most successful director cum producer cum hero! He simply steals the hearts of all viewers with his casual play.

Bharani is another good performer. Vijay, Ganja Karuppu and other new faces have performed well in their roles. Then guy who imitates Vijaykanth in a few scenes is rocking!

Shankar Mahadevan's number “Sambo Shiva Sambo..,” stands out in Sundar C Babu's music.

Wolverine and its record openings

It surely hasn’t been the happiest patch for filmmakers and goers in India. Microsoft will not be offering upgrade version of Windows 7 to Europeans.

In the past Microsoft has given people already using Windows a chance to upgrade to a new version when it becomes available.

While that option will be offered in the US, Microsoft said its efforts to comply with competition regulations meant it could not do so in Europe.

European regulators dismissed the claim, saying the move limited choices rather than opening them up.

No choice

Windows 7 is due to go on sale on 22 October around the world.

Anyone outside Europe buying a new PC between now and then - running Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate - will get the chance to upgrade the operating system on it, at no cost, to Windows 7.

While Microsoft will not charge for the upgrade, some PC makers may impose a fee to ship disks with Windows 7 on them to customers.

The worldwide upgrade option programme is due to begin on 26 June.

Those who want to upgrade to Windows 7 on a older PC will pay a reduced price for the software. Stand alone versions of Windows 7, that can run on more than one PC, will also be available.

Microsoft said these upgrade options will not be available to Europeans.

"We will not be able to offer an upgrade product within Europe," said John Curran, Windows business lead at Microsoft UK, adding that only the full version of the software will be available to Europeans.

Microsoft will make an upgrade offer to buyers of new PCs but will send them a full version of the software rather than an upgrade version.

In Europe, the full version will cost the same as an upgrade version.

In the UK the upgrade version of the Home Premium edition of Windows 7, available to those with an existing Windows license, will be £79.99.

By contrast buying this in a shop, and which can be installed on more than one machine, will cost £149.99.

The upgrade option was not available, Microsoft said, because it was trying to comply with European competition regulations.

Microsoft has said that Windows 7 will be offered in Europe without the Internet Explorer browser on board.

A Commission spokesman dismissed Microsoft's claim that it was taking the action to comply with European laws.

"The essential point of our case is consumer choice," said the spokesman.

"We would want to look extremely closely at the terms under which Microsoft is making Internet Explorer available to computer manufacturers," he said.

"If the effect of the technical separation of Windows and Internet Explorer is neutralised by particular terms and conditions they offer to manufacturers to install Internet Explorer, they're no better off."

The preferred remedy for Europe, he said, was to offer users a screen when they first switch on Windows 7 that gives them a choice between IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Opera.

"For them to claim that this is somehow imposed by the Commission or is going to resolve the problem with the Commission is far from clear," he said.

"It's certainly not because we've asked them to do it."

FIR against Shah Rukh

The Bandra police on Thursday filed a case against film star Shah Rukh Khan for “outraging religious sentiments”.

The complaint was registered by the Mumbai Aman Committee, a religious organisation, in objection to his remark in a recent magazine interview in which he listed Prophet Mohammed as one of the most unimpressive personalities in history.

If the case is proved, Khan could go to jail for three years, police said. Khan is presently in the United States and his statement would be taken when he returns; he will not be arrested immediately, said Senior Police Inspector Prakash George. He added: “We will take action after completing the probe.”

Zarar Qureshi, secretary of the committee, claimed: “Shah Rukh Khan bracketed the Prophet along with Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.”

Farid Sheikh, president of the committee, said they would not allow Khan’s body to be buried anywhere in Maharashtra when he dies.

I was misinterpreted, says SRK

A day after a police complaint was filed against him for "hurting religious sentiments" in Islam, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh said Friday that his comments to a magazine were misinterpreted due to a "writing error".

The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the Mumbai Aman Committee (MAC) at the Bandra police station here Thursday after they read in Time'N Style-Luxury that Shah Rukh had listed Prophet Mohammad as one of the most unimpressive personalities in history alongside Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.

But Shah Rukh said it was a "writing error" and that he had named the Prophet among the most impressive personalities in history.

"Obviously I think that there is no more important figure in history than Prophet Mohammad in the most positive way possible. Also, being a Muslim and standing up for the tenets of Islam is my most important agenda. If they (MAC) have seen my interviews on TV about Islam and Prophet Mohammad, they would know it's a writing error and not a thought or view that I believe in," Shah Rukh told IANS in an SMS message.

"For all practical purposes, Prophet Mohammad is the most important positive figure in Islam," he added.

A corrigendum from the magazine was also published across Mumbai newspapers Thursday wherein the magazine accepted the error.

The corrigendum stated: "This is with reference to the interview with Shah Rukh Khan that featured in Time'N Style-Luxury Vol-1 issue: The answer to question 'According to you (Shah Rukh) who is the most impressive figure in history?' should have appeared as: 'There are lots of them. Some negative ones like Hitler. Then Napoleon, Winston Churchill were impressive.

" 'If I can call it history then most impressive, positive figure Prophet Mohammad and from recent times there are the nice ones like Nelson Mandela, Gandhiji and Mother Teresa.' This is a clarification and the error is deeply regretted."

An official from the Bandra police station, however, confirmed that the FIR had not been withdrawn even after the corrigendum was published.

As if to signal that he’s had enough of the media’s guessing game about Aayirathil Oruvan, Selvaraghavan convened a press meet today with members of the cast at the Accord Metropolitan, Chennai this morning. Flanked by Parthiban, Karthi, G V Prakash and Andrea, Selva formally announced the audio release and the release date of his much-anticipated movie. Aayirathil Oruvan’s audio will be released in a grand event in Chennai on June 14th while the movie itself will be released in the month of July.

Selva started with a modest note stating that the movie ‘does not have anything untold before’ further going on to say that ‘he learnt a lot while making this movie’. ‘I always had a penchant for Hollywood movies and used to be awestruck at them. So when I attempted to reach their movie making finesse, I found how difficult it was,” he noted. “I found it’s not an easy task when I had to give command to some 2000 odd people who have different dialogues and facial expressions in one single shot,” he revealed. He also opined that we have a long way to go before reaching finesse of Hollywood movies.

According to Selva, he has tried a unique genre with this fantasy movie. Shot in 250 days, the movie will feature 2 hours of graphics which are made to blend with the movie’s progress. On a lighter note, Selva stated that he had literally tortured people asking them to extend their call sheets as he couldn’t complete the movie on schedule owing to the extensive periodical research that went into the making. Selva has also penned songs for the movie, as is customary to his other movies, and quipped that it’s only G V Prakash who made the entire world know that piece of information.

On a poser as to why he roped in G V Prakash dumping his mascot Yuvan, Selva stated that Yuvan was getting way too predictable for him. “Besides, G V Prakash is available round the clock and I like that aspect.” he mentioned.

Although he plays a significant role in the movie as a King, Parthiban hasn’t had the opportunity to view the movie yet. “While the entire movie goes at a fast-forward pace, my scenes appear in real time and hence while mixing I could only see my portions,” Parthiban said.

G V Prakash spoke about the hard work that went into the making of music for Aayirathil Oruvan. “The instruments we used in this movie are rare and unique and I worked hard for about a year and a half to create music.” Prakash noted. He also revealed that veteran singer P B Srinivas has sung for the movie. The album will have 10 songs.

For the audio release event, Prakash will sing 2 songs. That apart various dance and music forms including Shingaari Melam, rope dance, snake dance and Kalari Payattu are planned for the event. Actor Poorna’s classical dance choreographed by Sivashankar and the Makossa dance from Nigeria will also be a part of the program.

Karthi plays a laborer in the movie while Andrea and Reema are part of an archeological team.

Kanthaswamy: Ultimate

Kanthaswamy, directed by Susi Ganesan and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the banner V Creations, has been in the making for nearly two years. Following the news scoops and snippets regarding the crew's various activities, everybody in tinsel town is excited and eagerly awaiting its release. Kanthaswamy stars Vikram and Shriya in lead roles, and there is liberal dose of glamour, heroism, a well-defined story, romance, edge-of-the-seat suspense and some foot-tapping music in it.

The story is about the economical differences that prevail between different classes of the Indian population. The film's protagonist is an investigating officer of high rank. While handling problems related to the country's security and development, the officer goes through specific property details of affluent businessmen and NRIs. On further investigation, he finds that the wide gap between the rich and the poor is the root cause for so many problems. He tries to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. How? By using his position and power, Vikram identifies and unearths crores of rupees of unaccounted money tucked away by the bigwigs in strange nooks and corners of the globe under varied names and ownerships and distributes them legitimately to the middle class and lower middle class people. All the adventures he goes through on his mission is what makes the film fascinating.

Vikram is especially happy over the way the entire project has come through. There is also word that the actor has donned eight different roles in the film.

Devi Sri Prasad has composed some really enthralling numbers for the film. The audio release that took place recently in the city was a grand function attended by big shots of the city. Of the eight songs, four have been sung by Vikram. 'Excuse me' in Vikrama nd Suchithra's combination, and Vikram's solo 'Mambo Maamiya' inspire listeners to tap and groove for their rhythm.

Reporters, nuns, priests, and other faithful all crowd into Saint Peter’s Square, waiting for the white smoke from the conclave.

The Vatican summons Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zurer) to help them solve the Illuminati’s threat, save the four preferiti, and find the hidden bomb.

Langdon listens to the Illuminati message and deduces that the four cardinals will die at the four altars of the Path of Illumination. However, no one knows where these altars are located, but they are all somewhere in Rome.

Langdon requests access to the Vatican Secret Archives to see the original copy of Galileo Galilei’s banned book, as it contains clues to the Illuminati plot. Eventually, he is able to convince the camerlengo to grant him access.

Using the clue from this book, Langdon, Vetra, and Inspector General Ernesto Olivetti (Pierfrancesco Favino) of the Vatican police start their quest across Rome.

The film is as fanciful as it is controversial. Angels & Demons is a fast-paced movie with rivetting action scenes. Tom Hanks, who plays professor Robert Langdon, a Harvard University professor of symbology, has done well.

His measured performance makes it an interesting watch, while he is complimented by Ayelet Zurer who dons the role of Vittoria Vetra, a CERN scientist. Ewan McGregor, who plays the Camerlengo Patrick McKenna impresses.
